The Fancy-Pants looking “G” at the beginning of the staff is the Treble Clef symbol. That’s the clef that violin (and flutes, and clarinets, and trumpets etc.) play in.
It’s kind of like the language we speak and read. Other instruments (like Double Bass, Trombone, and Tuba, etc) speak and read the Bass Clef.
The same notes written in two different clefs will sound very different.
Press “play” below to hear the same looking notes played first in Treble Clef, then in Bass Clef.
Pianists read in both clefs at the same time. Crazy, right?!
Fortunately, we only have to learn Treble Clef.
